Project Overview
Fitness trackers are part of an overall rise in wearable and personal data tracking. The purpose of fitness trackers is to promote a healthier lifestyle for users. Along with the rise in the popularity of body tracking devices, people also find numerous way to cheat on the activity monitors, which defeats the purpose of fitness trackers.
The goal of the project is to create or modify an existing activity tracker, and empower users to be healthier through various methods of research and prototyping, preventing the “fake out” problem by systematically altering the user’s mental model.
RESEARCH
Methods: Secondary Research, Data Analysis, Interview, Personas
The goal the user research is to find out about ways users “cheat“ the device, and the mental model behind this behavior. Through research we found that with the step tracking, people wanted to get results to gain rewards while putting in minimal effort and time.
